Man attacks dad with parang

A case of biting the hand that fed him?

A machete-weilding man ran amok and attacked his father after the army pensioner reprimanded him for causing a disturbance at their home in Kampung Bari Air Merah, Kulim, Kedah on Sunday night.

Earlier, during a scuffle between them, the younger man lost his balance and fell on the floor, slightly injuring his head.

Enraged, the man grabbed a machete and chased his 60-year-old father who sought refuge at a neighbour's house and contacted the police.

A police team arrived at the scene and persuaded the man to surrender.

Kulim police chief Superintendent Ghuzlan Salleh said a suspect had been detained to facilitate investigations.

He said initial investigations revealed the suspect might have been under the influence of drugs when he returned home about 11pm.
