Suspected M'sian carjacker shot dead

A man suspected of stealing a car at the Bukit Gantang rest stop on the North-South Highway (southbound) on Sept 24, was shot dead by police in Section 24 Shah Alam on Thursday night.

The 28-year-old suspect was gunned down at the car park of a flat in the area after he had earlier been dropped off there in Kancil car driven by a woman.

Police detained the woman, also aged 28, about 100 metres from the scene of the shooting, said Selangor police chief Datuk Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah.

"While reversing the stolen car out a parking lot, the suspect's car knocked into a police patrol car. The suspect suddenly pulled out a gun and fired two shot at the police, one of which hit the patrol car.

"Police did not have any choice but to fire back," he told reporters at the scene.

Tun Hisan said investigations showed the man had five past criminal records including a murder case in Sungai Petani, Kedah.
