Anushree wanted to marry Nimesh but his parents were opposed to their relationship. Instead, they arranged for his marriage with Juhi, and that angered Anushree.
Nimesh's mother called her on October 12 and told her to rush to Pune as she had learnt from Nimesh that Anushree was with him.
Juhi took a flight to Pune on Wednesday evening and went to Nimesh's flat where Anushree was already there. A heated argument broke out between the two women.
Mohite said Nimesh and Juhi had given statements saying that they tried to pacify Anushree throughout the night.
"They said around 5.30am on Thursday, Anushree told them that she would not come in the way of their marriage. She advised them to rest in their bedroom but requested them not to lock the door from inside."
"She also told them that she would sit in the living room for a while before leaving the house," Mohite said.
But Anushree sneaked into the bedroom while they were asleep and poured petrol on Nimesh and Juhi.
Before they could react, Anushree set them on fire. She then locked the flat's door and fled. Neigh! bours wh o heard Nimesh and Juhi screaming broke into the flat and tried to put out the fire.
