Pig thefts on the rise in US
Higher hog prices ares said to be the main cause for the increasing number of pig thefts in the United States.
Over the past few weeks, more that1,000 pigs were stolen from farms - mostly in Iowa and Minnesota.
Investigators believe thata well-organised syndicate isresponsible for the thefts.
However, no arrests have beenmade nor have anyof the stolen pigs been recovered.
Investigations revealed that the thieves usuallygain entry into the animal confinements by cutting through the side curtains and nettings which keeps birds out.
Most of the pigs stolen were ready to be slaughtered and weighedat around 113kg each.
The prices of pigs in the USy have increased from US$125 (RM398) last year to the current US$200 (RM636), CNN reported.
