M'sian smugglers die after car blows up
Two suspected smugglers were burnt to death when the car they were travelling in burst into flames after plunging into a canal in Kampung Tuk Seraya in Tumpat, Kelantan on Friday night.
Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department director (operations) Annuarul Hakim Mohny said the mishap involving a Proton Iswara car loaded with containers of diesel took place at 10.20pm.
"The vehicle did a U-turn to escape a road block manned by a village volunteer patrol in the area. However, it skidded a few times, plunged into a dry canal and burst into flames, 100 metres from the road block," he told reporters Saturday.
Annuarul said firemen who rushed to the scene after being contacted by villagers took about 30 minutes to douse the fire and extricate the charred remains.
The bodies were sent to the Tumpat Hospital for post-mortem.
