Resort workers bashed up for robbery
Two men were injured when bashed up by local residents following a robbery at the Padang Air Kuala Terengganu City Council (MBKT) bus station Friday.
State Criminal Investigation Department head, ACP K. Manoharan, said in the incident which occurred about noon, the two men had earlier entered a grocery on the pretext of buying cigarettes.
"When doing the transaction with the grocer, one of the suspects snatched a handbag belonging to the grocer's 33-year-old wife, and then fled on a motorcycle," he told reporters Saturday.
He said the grocer, aged 40, went after the suspects in his car and after about a 10km chase the suspects fell of their motorcycle when it skidded near Kampung Tok Jiring.
"The grocer, with the help of local residents, managed to apprehend the suspects and then handed them over to the police, after giving the two suspects, who are cousins, a bash," he added.
Manoharan said the suspects, who worked at a resort here, tested positive for morphine.
They are now in remand for six days beginning yesterday for robbery, he added.
