When we said "get a room", we didn't mean one with a balcony, six-stories up in the middle of the city.

Public displays of affection are one thing, but a couple in Darwin, Northern Territory in Australia, left absolutely nothing to the imagination.

According to Northern Territory News, the pair sipped champagne and smoked cigarettes before performing sex acts in broad daylight and in full view of people in Darwin's La Grande apartments on the corner of Mitchell and Knuckey streets.

One office worker suggested the couple had publicly displayed their intimate affection for each other before.

"It's the first time I've seen it but a few of the other ladies said they have seen it before," she told the NT News.

"I don't know if it was the same couple, though.

"All the girls at the window just erupted in laughter so the whole floor walked across and saw it.

"We all were thinking 'far out, please just take it inside'."

She said the show "made for a good afternoon".

Last year, a survey of more than 10,000 men and women revealed almost every second Northern Territorian enjoys having sex in public - from beaches to bathrooms, offices to nightclubs.
