Three 15-year-old girls were gang-raped by a group of men in what has been described as a horrific crime in Ipswich, UK.

Police revealed the "traumatised" victims were attacked at a town centre flat by strangers during the early hours of Friday.

Neighbours said the appalling crime was carried out while a party was being held nearby.

Officers were called to the property in Ipswich just after 3am by a friend of one of the girls.

A 19-year-old man from the town has been arrested on suspicion of rape and cannabis possession and remained in custody Friday night.

A police spokesman said the victims did not know their attackers and the men had not been invited into the flat.

The three girls "have been interviewed by specially-trained officers but did not need hospital treatment", he added.

Residents said a party was being held in a neighbouring block.

One of them commented: "We were told that people were going backwards and forwards from the party to the flat where these girls were supposedly raped.

"It is quite shocking to hear about this."
