Newlyweds caught shoplifting food for receptiion

A couple of newlyweds are behind bars after they were caught shoplifting food from a supermarket for their wedding reception.

Police said 32-year-old Arthur Phillips III and his bride, 22-year-old Brittany Lurch, were arrested on Saturday after taking more than US$1,000 in merchandise from a supermarket in the Pennsylvania town of State College.

Patton Township police said the couple were captured on CCTV loading a shopping trolley with supplies before leaving the store without paying.

The couple admitted taking the items when they were arrested.

The pair told officers they'd been married a couple days earlier and took the food for their wedding reception that afternoon.

Phillips and Lurch are each charged with misdemeanor counts and are being held on US$2,500 bail. - www.mirror.co.uk
