A man in the UKhad to have his testicles surgically reattached after his girlfriend allegedly bit them off.

The Mirror reports that Maria Georgina Topp has appeared in Newcastle crown court charged with causing grievous bodily harm to Martin Douglas.

The attack is said to have taken place when the couple returned to Douglas's flat after a drunken night out.

The 45-year-old dialed 999 himself and the police were contacted by paramedics when they realised the severity of his injuries. The self-employed DJ underwent emergency surgery in Newcastle and spent several days recovering before being released.

Topp was granted bail by the court on the condition that she did not approach Douglas or enter the city."At around 4am on Friday, February 18, police were called to a report of an assault," a Northumbria Police spokesman said. "Officers arrested a 43-year-old woman on suspicion of assault.

"A 45-year-old man was taken to the Freeman Hospital for treatment to injuries to his arm and groin area. Police have since charged Maria Georgina Topp, 43.

Topp will appear in court again next month.
