'Boob-job' prize sparks outrage

A controversial prize draw at a Surfers Paradise nightclub in Australias Gold Coast has sparked outrage after promoting breast enlargement surgery.

Sin City Nightclub launched posters adorned with busty models, holding a sign saying Win a Boob Job Valued at A$10,000 (RM31,072).

The poster is promoting a lottery in which scratchcqrd-style tickets will give male and female patrons at an Ibiza-themed party the chance to win prizes.

Nightclub owner Jamie Pickering told the Gold Coast Bulletin that party-goers at the April 3 event could win minor prizes or, if their scratchie dictated, a chance to enter the ticket in the barrel for the 'boob job' draw.

But in small print on the poster, it states that the prize is actually A$10,000 cash and the nightclub is only suggesting the winner could spend the money on a boob job.

Outrage over the poster has led the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation to investigate the promotion though, a spokesperson for the Department of Justice said.

"Its stooping to a new low as a marketing ploy in an image-driven society where cleavage dictates status", she said.

"Were now seeing the magazine industry pull back on airbrushing so young women are given a chance to develop naturally without feeling pressured. This flies in the face of what the industry at large is trying to achieve."

Body image expert Dr Evonne Miller branded the campaign "sexist insanity".

"Ive never seen a sign saying win a $10,000 penis enlargement. Its sexist and shows there are two standards in society."

"It assumes young women would want to spend ten grand on a boob job other than something that could benefit their future, like travel, a house or career."

But club owner Pickering simply joked that the controversy surrounding his campaign was a 'storm in a D-cup'.

"On the Gold! Coast a lot of girls have them and a lot of girls want them."

"They can do whatever they want with the money, its just that wed like to see them get a boob job and come in and show them off," he said.
