Qantas says sorry with free tickets
Qantas Airways is offering free return flights to customers as a way of making up for the controversial grounding of its fleet.
It is the first of several measures the company aims to regain the public's trust following industrial action that stranded tens of thousands of passengers.
Its chief executive Alan Joyce said those affected by last week's grounding would be able to claim a free return flight anywhere in Australia or New Zealand.
The passengers will also be refunded the full cost of their Qantas ticket and any expenses they incurred while stranded away from home.
Those who bought tickets on other airlines to make up for the missed flights will also be reimbursed for the difference between the new flight and their original Qantas flight.
It is expected to cost the airline AU$20mil (RM64.6mil) for an estimated 100,000 tickets.
"This ticket offer is one of a range of initiatives we will be launching as a way of saying sorry," Joyce said in a statement.
Further offers to overseas customers and Qantas Frequent Flyer members will be made shortly.
