Pupils forced to slap each other 150 times

Two primary school pupils in China were forced by their teacher to slap each other more than 150 times on the face, as punishment for being late.

The incident happened in Guangzhou, Guangdong.

According to Chinese news media reports, the two boys were late to board the bus for a school trip and caused the whole class to wait for them, angering their teacher.

They were instructed by their teacher to slap each other for more than three minutes.

A four-minute clip of the incident was uploaded on the Internet, which went viral.

At the end of the video, the teacher, still unsatisfied with the punishment, gave one student a few more slaps, before asking them to return to their seats.

Earlier this year, another video clip of a female teacher pushing, pulling and slapping a high school student surfaced. The teacher was allegedly angry at the girl for not paying attention in class and for being rude.

The incidents triggered backlash from members of the public, who felt that teachers were being too heavy-handed in their punishments.

In 2009, a student died after being asked to stand in the freezing cold by his teacher, as punishment.

But the teacher went out drinking and forgot about him. The boy's body was discovered lying in the gutter the next morning.

More recently, a teacher in Zhejiang province came under fire for making primary schoolboys run around a track with their pants around their ankles.

Worse, girls were made to 'supervise' the three boys while they went through the humiliating punishment.

This and other school punishment cases in China that have drawn criticism from netizens.
