Bad debt: Woman gets locked up
A Magistrate's Court in Kuala Lumpur sentenced an Indonesian woman to 12 months' jail on Wednesday after she pleaded guilty to wrongfully confining another Indonesian woman who owed her money.
Magistrate Erry Shahriman Nor Aripin ordered Pinanti Samuri, 38, a restaurant assistant, to serve the sentence from the date of her arrest last Thursday (Nov 10).
Pinanti pleaded guilty to the offence of wrongfully confining Sumon, an Indonesian worker in order to get back RM4,000 that she had lent to the victim.
She committed the offence at premises number 15-3, Batu 4 1/2, Old Klang Road, Brickfields, from 9.30am until 5.30pm on Nov 10, 2011.
She was charged under Section 347 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum jail term of three years or fine.
