Seven years into their marriage, Peter Sim Bak Cheng, 54, found out that his Filipino wife, Asinero Julie Tidula, 36, was also married to a man in the Philippines.

The Singaporean man, who used to earn S$3,500 (RM8,120) a month as a deputy operations manager in a shipping company, claims that he spent S$130,000 (RM301,600) on Asinero and her family over the years.

But when he found out in December 2009 about her deceit and betrayal, he was so upset that he decided to get back at her.

He gathered evidence of her bigamy and reported her to the police.

Asinero was jailed for seven months after pleading guilty to one count each of bigamy and making a false statement in her application for permanent residency in Singapore.

She had also lied that she was not married to anyone else other than Sim.

Three other charges of making a false declaration or a false statement were taken into consideration during her sentencing.
