'Nude handyman' job ad withdrawn

An advertisement seeking a "male nude handyman"placed on a website created to find work for university students in New Zealand, has been withdrawn for being 'sexist'.

The ad, which indicated a successful applicant would be paid $14.50 (RM33.89) an hour, said a student was "required to help this naturist employer with some odd jobs in the home" in Auckland, New Zealand."You must be hard-working, self-motivated and most importantly the confidence to work naked," the advertisement read.Student Job Search spokeswoman Lorna McConnon told the New Zealand Herald that the ad had been deleted after a review on Monday.McConnon said the ad breached the site's policy of only listing jobs be safe for students and offer "no surprises."Bridget Smith, senior associate of Minter Ellison Rudd Watts Lawyers, told the newspaper that the job would be in breach of the country's Human Rights Act.Under Section 22 of the Act it is illegal to discriminate against a job applicant because of their sex - unless you have to be a particular sex to perform the role."The question would be do you have to be a man to be a handyman?" Smith said. And what if there was a woman who did want to apply for the role?"If you are otherwise qualified to do the work, she could challenge it and the employer would need to justify why they're not the most suitable."
