Singapore 6th most expensive city in Asia

Singapore has jumped two spots and overtaken Hong Kong for the first time in at least 10 years to become the sixth most expensive city in Asia for expatriates.

The strong Singdollar and a 5.7 per cent rise in the average price of goods and services are behind Singapore's rise up the league table, according to the latest Cost of Living Survey by ECA International.

Japanese cities took the top four places followed by Seoul.

Globally, Singapore has catapulted to 31st spot from 42 a year ago, while Japan, largely owing to the strong yen, retains its grip on the top spot as the world's most costly location.
