Hubby built electric chair to kill wife
The Daily Mirror reported Andrew Castle wired the metal chair to the mains in his garage to give his wife a fatal 240 volt electric shock.
The 61-year-old planned to commit suicide after the murder.
Margaret, also 61, did sit in the chair but got up before he could turn on the power.
He then hit her with a rubber cosh but she escaped from their seaside bungalow in Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancs.
The pair, married for 18 years, ended up fighting in the street before police arrived.
Margaret was taken to hospital, where she was treated for minor head injuries.
Meanwhile, Castle returned to their home and tried to kill himself.
Police found him with slashed wrists.
