14-yr-old chihuahua named Yoda wins 'world's ugliest dog' title
LONDON: A scruffy, glassy-eyed chihuahua named Yoda has been crowned the 'world's ugliest dog', beating a one-eyed chihuahua and a blind 15-year-old pug in the competition.
The 14-year old Chinese-crested Chihuahua mix with protruding tongue and gangly legs was awarded the honour by judges in California, reports The Telegraph.
Yoda's owner Terry Schumacher revealed that she had fled when she first saw the two-pound dog abandoned behind an apartment building, thinking that it was a rat.
But on closer inspection, she realised the diminutive ball of hair and limbs was actually a dog.
Schumacher then took her home and named the pet after the pint-sized crumpled-faced Jedi master from the 'Star Wars' films, to whom the dog bears a striking canine resemblance.
