Peculiar protest over long speech

A group of students lifted up their shirts and lay on the ground while their principal was giving a speech at a college in China.

At the opening ceremony of the Graduates' WorksExhibition last week, the head of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, Li Ming, was invited to give a speech on the stage.

A few minutes later, some 11 male students walked towards the stage.

They lifted up their shirts and lay on the ground in a row in front of the stage.

Although shocked, Li remained calm. He asked the students to get up and he continued with his speech.

The students got up after finding that their act was not effective.

When asked, a spokesman for the college management said: "It wasn't a protest. The students have their own way of conveying a message.

"They have the freedom to do what is in their mind."
